Welcome to Rainbow Federal Credit Union. We have been serving our members since 1956 and if you have not already joined Rainbow, we would like you to consider the benefits of belonging to this credit union. The small town neighborhoods that used to exist when we were first chartered in the 50's were special; we knew each other, we interacted with one another, and we watched out for each other.

We may offer the latest technology . . . but the basics of helping each other out as we did over 50 years ago has not changed. As a member of Rainbow FCU, you become a part of our family. Currently we serve ALL of Androscoggin and Oxford Counties as well as New Gloucester, and you are able to sign up for membership at any of our branches in Lewiston, Auburn, Mechanic Falls or South Paris.

To become a member of Rainbow Federal Credit Union, you need to meet the following criteria:

1) Work, reside or attend school within our field of membership which includes the communities listed above, or have an immediate family member who is a  Rainbow FCU member in good standing, and . . .
 

2) Provide two forms of identification:  A photo ID such as your driver's license or a student ID; and the other needs to be your social security card. The only exception is a military ID in place of the social security card. After 9/11 the rules have changed, and the restrictions on financial institutions have become more rigid.

3) Open and maintain a Savings Account with a minimum balance of $25.00

 Choosing the perfect checking account for you is easy and now you can even order your checks on-line!

When you open a checking account with Rainbow FCU, you may hear us reference this account as your SHARE DRAFT ACCOUNT. This is a description that used to be very common for credit unions. The meaning, however, is the same and the benefits are numerous.  We have two types of checking accounts: 

REGULAR Checking:  No minimum is required to open, no dividend is paid, no minimum is required to be maintained and there is no monthly fee.

MINIMUM Balance Checking: .15% APY Dividend is paid monthly,  $500 minimum  is required to open, a $500 minimum balance is required and a $5.00 fee is charged at month end if the balance falls below $500.00

A unique feature of a Rainbow FCU checking account is that money can be automatically transferred from your savings account (providing your savings account balance does not fall below the $25 minimum) to your checking account to cover a check that may otherwise be returned as insufficient. Another service is OVERDRAFT LINE OF CREDIT - which provides an instant pre-approved loan.
